Mistake Creek, Hut Creek and U-pass

A circuit up one valley through U-Pass and down the next. The trip can be done in a long summers day by fit trampers but many choose to camp overnight at the head of one valley or the other. The round trip does require New Zealand back country experience particularly crossing the unmarked U pass. Each valley however makes for a good day or overnight tramping trip in themselves. The tramping tracks are generally well marked up to bush line in the valley floors but as always in the back country, you need to be prepared for windfalls and overgorwn sections.  There are sevearl unbridged stream crossings and the one in Mistake creek can be particularly nasty if it rains.  There are route finding alternatives but sitting it out is generally a good option.for saving lives.
