Dore Pass

An 8 hour day sees trampers traverse from the Eglinton Valley across Dore Pass to Glade House at the head of Lake Te Anau. A boat trip then brings the tramper back to the road at the Te Anau Downs late in the afternoon. There are great views up the Clinton Canyon on the Milford track from Dore Pass and many trampers just go up to Dore Pass for this view and return the same way back down to the Eglinton Valley. The route does require back country experience particularly over the open pass which requires a long sidle and has caught a number of people out, good weather or bad, and there is the Eglinton River to wade through at the very beginning.
